Peter O’Brien is the Principal Solicitor, director and founder of O’Brien Criminal and Civil Solicitors. Peter is a highly experienced criminal defence and civil lawyer with over twenty years of experience in the practice of law in New South Wales and interstate. Peter also holds Specialist Accreditation in Criminal Law from the Law Society of NSW.
Prior to establishing O’Brien Criminal and Civil Solicitors, Peter began his career by working as a solicitor for the Children’s Legal Service of New South Wales, then spent a substantial amount of time working for the Katherine Regional Aboriginal Legal Aid Service in the Northern Territory. It was during this time that Peter received an award for Outstanding Representation of Children and Young People from the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre, 2002. Upon his return to Sydney, Peter worked in a senior position at the New South Wales Legal Aid Commission lectured in law at the University of Technology Sydney (2006-2013).
Peter is the co-founder of the University of Technology Sydney Community Law and Legal Research Centre. He is also the co-author of Intentional Tort Litigation in Australia: Assault, False Imprisonment, Malicious Prosecution and Related Claims (2015, The Federation Press) a text that was the first of its kind in the area of intentional tort litigation.
